- Design and build up dual beam-shear differential interference contrast (D-DInM) microscope optical system (Oct., 2017 - present)
- The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
- This system is used to reconstruct the 3D surface topography of opaque materials under mechanical or thermal loading. Our experimental set up can in-situ observe the surface topography of specimens with data acquisition rate of 28 data points per second. We are using this system to study the mechanism of martensitic transformation process and observe the stress concentration of transition layer during the martensitic transformation.
- Characterizing the mechanical property of soft materials during buckling process (Nov., 2018 - present)

- Based on our microscope system, we characterize the mechanical property of electronic microsystem under external mechanical loading. We can observe the stress concentration of the electronics circuit and we can give the suggestions to improve the design based on the results.
- Using ferroelectric materials to convert energy (Feb., 2018 - present)
- The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
- Utilizing the change of polarization during the martensitic transformation of ferroelectric materials under thermal loading to convert the heat to electrical energy. We already verify the feasibility of this energy conversion concept and we are designing better materials and analyzing the leakage properties of materials.
- Measuring optical beam shear angle of birefringent prisms (Oct., 2018 - Jan., 2019)
- The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
- A new method to precisely determine the shear angle of birefringence crystals with precision of micro-rad has been proposed by us. The precision of this method is beyond the diffraction limit.
- Simulation of 1D X-ray diffraction of on polycrystalline materials (June., 2017 – Sep., 2017)

- Simulate the X-ray diffraction in crystal powder. Using MATLAB to program this algorithm with a user interface.

- Simulate the mechanical respond of pressurized cylindrical tubes under axial crushing with ANSYS/LS-DYNA and analyze the deformation and energy absorption during the loading. We find that the energy absorption is not proportional to the internal pressure and optimize the internal pressure for the structure to absorb crashing energy.
